The Fourth of July Cheesecake plus my Starburst
|
This latest adventure for me began a week or so ago when it occurred to me it would be fun to bake Rose's Fourth of July Cheesecake as a present for a friend named Jolee, whose birthday is on the Fourth of Jolee.
As some of you know, I have been a Rose's Baker in the past but have had to drop away much to my sadness due to conflicts. At the end of the baking of this quite lavish cake, however, I sent best wishes to most of my friends after Jolee's birthday wishes, of course. Marie, being the insightful person she is, asked if I was having wistful thoughts and of course I was, and so she has been kind enough to reinstate me among the Alpha Bakers, much to my delight. I hope that is acceptable to you all. I will try to do several bakings a month.
For the present cake, I used the inexpensive McCormick coloring in the amount called for:
and was rewarded with a bright scarlet 10 x 2 layer.
I won't go into detail of the mixing of the various ingredients, but you can see I used the silicone pan protection in a water bath to bake the cheesecake.

Here it is in the oven ... |

And Star sang Happy Birthday to Jolee. |
So fun to have you back! This is quite a grand presentation, perfect for a birthday celebration. So you followed Rose's recipe for the blueberries on top plus made Peggy's sauce to serve on the side?

ReplyDeleteWelcome back Joan! And what a spectacular entrance you've made! The cake looks fantastic. Happy Birthday Jolee and Happy Independence Day to the US Alpha Bakers.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much all of you - and nice it wasn't planned and that it happened for me being liberated from some messy work stuff. I may not be able to be here once a week, but it will be better than it was. You are all so kind.
ReplyDeleteI thought everyone's cakes were outstanding as always - my top did crack which has never happened before, but the frosting covered with no problem and it did affect the slices. So, on to our next adventure. : )
Welcome back--it makes my heart glad! Your cake looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rose! Mine too ; )

ReplyDeleteooops - Maggie - the note below was in response to you. sorry for error.
DeleteCertainly understand your feelings. Of course, I hope to be able to keep up and I think Marie knows that. I always love what you do. I have no intention of some laissez faire attitude. Nothing I do is ever done that way intentionally, and this baking has been close to my heart since The Heavenly Bakers days. Since that time I have lost sight in one eye, had three major falls, stirred caramel with a cast on, present vertigo, and then came all sorts of other stuff and the work problems, and I am still here. Everyone has his 'stuff'. As the old-timer once said, "The 'fair' comes once a year, and it's in Dallas." The heart of the matter is most important as you are stressing. Many of us are having pressing complications as witnessed in our group. Whatever happens for you I hope will be happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat does The 'fair' comes once a year have to do with what Marie has done , she says something and she does something else, and I do love baking a lot but Marie has allowed you to bake when you can and because your are friends with her it shouldn't be pick and choice and it is not faire to me or anyone else that wants to be able to bake , so what I'm saying is that she is allowing you to bake when you can but will not let me and that is not right at all !!
DeleteOh - I see...no I have known Marie since Heavenly Baker's and only through association with the groups. I have never been a favorite of Marie's, or of Rose's. It has always been a fun association like everyone else's. I think when I had to leave she was sorry to see me leave because she knew it meant so much to me, not because it meant so much to her. As far as her allowing a looser frame, you must speak to her. I see that there were several people leaving and perhaps that was her reason. Maybe when she sees our conversation she will have something to say. But actually, I think it good if you direct your displeasure to her and ask her what you want to know and do. Being upset doesn't help you if she doesn't know it and can't fix it xo
ReplyDeleteIt called favorite ment like I always say what goes around comes around
ReplyDeleteHi Joan!! GREAT cake!! I love little banner on top! I just loved this recipe, and all of my tasters raved about it also. Your photos are terrific! So glad we are baking along. I also had a forced hiatus also due to major computer hardware problems. So we bake on....
ReplyDeleteHow did you get the cat to sing ? :)
